My story
and roots reggae singer known for his raw vocal style and socially conscious lyrics.
His music has long been a staple within the genre, thanks to its powerful messages and compelling sound that resonated with early dancehall audiences. Mr. Spaulding is especially revered for his seminal album *”Twelve Tribe of Israel,”* recorded in February 1983 at the famed Aquarius Studio in Kingston, Jamaica, with Chris Daley—a legendary engineer known for his contributions to Jamaican music. The album is regarded as one of early dancehall’s hardest-hitting and most influential records, capturing the essence of the genre’s roots with lyrics that delve into spirituality, social justice, and Rastafari teachings. After establishing his reputation in Jamaica, Mr. Spaulding expanded his influence overseas.
Early Beginnings
Upon arriving in London, he collaborated with Passion Enterprise, a label that connected Jamaican reggae artists with a wider audience in the UK.
At B.P. Studio in Brixton, he recorded on the B-side of ”Stamina” by ”Ricky Tuffy”. This collaboration further showcased his versatility, blending his roots-influenced style with the emerging sounds of London’s reggae and dancehall scene. The track was recorded and mixed by local engineers in Brixton, adding a distinctly British influence to his sound while preserving the authentic Jamaican dancehall elements that characterized his work. Mr. Spaulding’s ability to bridge the gap between Jamaican and UK reggae audiences helped him build a lasting legacy within the global reggae community. His work with Passion Enterprise, and particularly his contributions to tracks like ”Stamina,” cemented his status as an influential figure in both the roots and dancehall genres. His contributions remain highly sought after, with collectors and fans still appreciating the authenticity and depth of his music.
